DEVOE’S MUSIC: WHERE THE MUSIC BEGINS

The DeVoe family has been in the musical instrument sales and service business since 1924. The business was started in the basement of my grandfather’s Northeast Philadelphia home. During the Great Depression, he would purchase military surplus instruments, completely overhaul them, and resell them to schools and musicians as far away as the Philippines through one of the first mail order campaigns in the industry.

After returning home from WWII, my father began working with school districts in the Tri-State area developing elementary school music programs. By offering instrument rentals as a new concept to make learning an instrument affordable, we provided an opportunity to students who may not otherwise have gotten that chance. During the late 1970’s and early 1980’s, my father was a founding member of the Pennsylvania School Music Dealers Association, (PASMD), an advocacy group of musical merchants whose efforts helped save school music programs during severe budget cuts.

In 1968, our family moved to the North Penn area and set up a store front in Lansdale Borough. My three sisters and I all attended the North Penn School District and we were all proud members of the Marching Knights.

In 1996 I began running the family business, becoming the third generation owner. I have continued my father and grandfather’s tradition of giving back to the community by offering scholarships to deserving children, sponsoring multiple sports teams and community musical groups, and donating to various projects directly tied to keeping music in the greater North Penn area and our surrounding communities.

Our store is still conveniently located in Lansdale, and is still a family enterprise. Our staff lives in the local areas and is familiar with the North Penn, Souderton, Quakertown, Upper Perkiomen, Abington, and Methacton school districts, as well as the private and parochial schools in those neighborhoods. We have a skilled repair technician on site daily Monday through Friday, and we have convenient store hours staffed by friendly, knowledgeable and dedicated members of those communities. We also have talented instructors providing lessons to musicians of all age’s right in our studios located on the second floor of our building.

We visit schools in each district every week, or as needed, and do our best to accommodate our customer’s needs whenever we can. Our success depends on your happiness and we love to see you smile.

We look forward to serving you. Contact us at 215-368-3395 or devoesmusic@gmail.com
